    A Bit About Ted Gary

Ted believes the next generation of the church depends on the current generation of young adults. He writes stories to inspire young adults to develop an enduring faith. Ted’s enthusiasm for the next generation took root while working with Young Life in college. He subsequently taught Junior High Sunday School and currently volunteers as a youth group leader.

Ted recently ditched high-tech marketing to write fiction full time. His faith exploration stories uniquely combine compelling characters and action, in Pacific Northwest settings.

    The Longer Version

Ted Gary wrote his first story in tenth grade, and his mother liked it. However, ignoring her encouragement to keep writing, he preferred the idea of becoming a rock drummer. He soon admitted he would never be good enough to support himself with music and went to business school — but he hangs on to his classic drum kit just in case.

After getting a couple of business degrees, Ted embarked on a career in high-tech marketing. He ultimately focused on cybersecurity, where he authored dozens of blog posts, webinars, and whitepapers. He has spoken at security conferences across the U.S. and Canada and contributed to a leading industry standard for securing critical infrastructure.

Ted started writing fiction while working full-time, but he found it difficult to juggle the technical demands of cybersecurity and the creative work of writing. Ted was sacrificing doing the thing he loved for something he merely liked and finally ditched the financial security of high-tech to write fiction full time. He planned to write short stories for adult readers, but after he saw a young adult family friend (who also happened to be a pastor’s kid) reading Hunger Games for the fourteenth time, he decided to write novels for young adults. His faith exploration stories uniquely combine compelling characters and exciting action set in the Pacific Northwest.

Ted believes that the next generation of the church depends on the current generation of young adults. He writes stories that matter, stories about hearing, knowing, and seeking Jesus — stories to inspire young adults to develop an enduring faith. Ted’s enthusiasm for the next generation took root while he worked with Young Life. He subsequently taught Junior High Sunday School and currently volunteers as a youth group leader.

Ted lives in the Pacific Northwest with his wife. When not writing, he enjoys spending time with family, bicycling, and yes, occasionally playing the drums.
